Travel Insurance

  1. What insurance services are available for application through Mobile Application?
    • You can apply for a "Single Trip Travel Plan" under the "Universal Travel Insurance" ("this Plan") via Mobile Application. Please note that Mobile Application accepts premium payment below HKD2,500 by Visa Card or MasterCard only. Please make your application through our Internet Banking or our website if the premium amount is HKD2,500 or above.
  2. Am I eligible to apply for this Plan? Are there any limitations for the insured person?
    • Residents of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region ("HKSAR") who are aged 18 or above can apply for the "Universal Travel Insurance" via Mobile Application. All insured persons must be residents of the HKSAR who are aged between 6 weeks and 75 years. Applications for persons aged under 18 must be signed by their parents or guardians and made at any of our branches.
  3. Can I enrol in this Plan for children aged under 18 on a standalone basis? Are there any limitations?
    • Yes, enrolment in this Plan can be made for persons aged between 6 weeks and 17 years old travelling without their parents. However, the premium will be the same as that for an adult. Besides, they should complete the entire journey with an adult and the application must be made at any of our branches.
  4. Does the family coverage of this Plan include the insured person's spouse, child / children and parents?
    • The family coverage of the Plan only includes the insured person, his or her spouse and child / children aged between 6 weeks and 17 years. Separate plan must be applied for the parents of the insured person.
  5. Can I enrol in this Plan after setting off on my journey?
    • No. You must enrol in this Plan to your departure from Hong Kong in order to enjoy the protection.
  6. My children will travel overseas on a study tour. Is the "Universal Travel Insurance" adequate to cover their journey?
    • A "Student Overseas Travel Cover" is provided under the "Universal Travel Insurance" free of charge. It offers students adequate protection no matter what they do and where they go such as studying, sightseeing or visiting relatives during their stay overseas.
  7. What is the maximum policy period of the "Single Trip Travel Plan" under the "Universal Travel Insurance"?
    • The maximum policy period for the "Single Trip Travel Plan" is 180 days.
  8. After the travel insurance policy takes effect, can I extend the insurance period?
    • Yes, the insured person can extend the insurance period as long as the original insurance period is still valid. Notice can be given by the insured person's family or friends to the BOCG Insurance or its authorised agent. The extended period of insurance will take effect upon issuance of an endorsement by BOCG Insurance and settlement of the required additional premium.
  9. If an incident happened during the journey, what should the insured person do?
    • If an accident happened to the insured person during his/her travel, he/she should stay calm and notify the relevant authorities and organisations immediately, such as the Police, airline and travel agency. He/She must also keep the original copies of all the documents, including the Police report, medical certificate, purchase receipt for necessities and the like. After returning to Hong Kong, he/she should submit a completed claim form together with all supporting documents and reports to the Claims Division of BOCG Insurance as soon as practicable for further processing.
  10. I will migrate to an overseas country. Will I receive the same protection if I enrol in this Plan?
    • Migration is not accepted under this Plan. The policy will become invalid after you have emigrated overseas.
  11. If the travel agency I have joined closes down, can I get any compensation?
    • No. However, you can make your claim(s) on the "Travel Industry Compensation Fund".
  12. What is the "24-hour Worldwide Emergency Assistance Service"?
    • The "24-hour Worldwide Emergency Assistance Service" is an additional service offered to the insured person in the event of emergency. The insured person can enjoy 24-hour consultancy services free of charge including travel information, medical and legal assistance and the like, by simply dialing the Emergency Assistance Hotline. Remarks: With effect from 1 Mar 2013, international operator-assisted call services (i.e. collect calls paid by call recipient) will no longer be available from the local telecommunication service provider.
  13. Can I make any claims on the Plan if I have made compensation for any accidental loss or damage of the rented vehicle during my journey?
    • Yes, this Plan offers the insured person a "Rental Vehicle Excess Coverage" for a maximum indemnity limit of HKD2,500 per event under the rental agreement.
  14. A Black "Outbound Travel Alert" is issued to my destination by the HKSAR Government after I have successfully enrolled in this Plan. Does this Plan offer me any extra protection?
    • If you have successfully enrolled in the Plan prior to the issuance of the Black "Outbound Travel Alert" by the HKSAR Government to your destination, you can enjoy the following upgraded coverage:
      1. Reimbursement of the irrecoverable prepaid travel costs (calculated on a pro-rata basis for each complete day); and
      2. A one-off cash allowance of HKD1,000.

  15. How can I enquire my travel insurance applications made via Mobile Application?
    • If you are our Internet Banking customer, you can refer to the "Policy Information" under "Insurance" after logging into Internet Banking to enquire the records of your travel insurance applications. If you have not registered for Internet Banking Service, please retain the "E-mail Confirmation of the Universal Travel Insurance Application" as records. To enjoy our comprehensive range of insurance and other banking services online, you can register for our Internet Banking at any of our branches with ease.
