BOCHK Charitable Foundation ("the Foundation") fully supports the first 1,000 Environment-Friendly Youth Ambassador Action ("the Action") - Energy and Water Conservation Contest ("the Contest"), which aims to raise environmental awareness among youngsters and encourage them to spread the green message to the community.
The Contest in Hong Kong is organised by the Centre for Environmental Education and Communication of the Ministry for Environmental Protection of the People's Republic of China in conjunction with the Tai Po Environmental Association ("TPEA") in Hong Kong. It also receives full support from the New Territories School Head Association, the Water Supply Department of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government and the Kadoorie Farm and Botanic Garden.
Initiated by the Ministry for Environmental Protection jointly with eight other national committees, the Action motivates younsters to play an active role in arousing public awareness about energy saving and carbon reduction. Since its inception on the World Environment Day 2009 at the Peking University, the Action has been igniting youth’s passion and devotion for environmental causes and receiving national-wide recognition.
The Contest, comprising primary and secondary sections, requires contestants and their teams to design story-boards on energy and water conservation that creatively arouse public awareness. The Contest also calls for the contestants to bring in their friends and families making commitment to reduce carbon emission at www.climatechange.hk.
Shortlisted contestants and their teams will present their proposals to the public and the judging panel during the final round of adjudication to be held on 16 July at Olympian City Phase II in Hong Kong. Prizes will be awarded to five winning teams of each section at the award presentation ceremony to be held on the same day.
Winning students and their schools will be honoured as the "1000 Environment-Friendly Youth Ambassadors" and the "School of 1000 Environment-Friendly Youth Ambassadors" respectively. Winners will be invited to join an exchange camp held later in Hong Kong in which the ambassadors will visit environmental protection organisations to better understand Hong Kong’s efforts in promoting environment protection and have a chance to exchange views with young ambassadors from the Mainland of China.

Up till now, 89 eco-tours were organised for nearly 8,000 customers, citizens, staff members and their companions to better understand Hong Kong’s geo-conservation. BOCHK also sponsors the first-ever Global Geoopark E-Classroom, providing local and overseas students with an online platform to learn more about geo-conservation from world-class experts. In addition, it has established the Hong Kong Global Geopark of China – Prehistoric Story Room, featuring life on earth at the BOC Tower in October 2011. Recommended Geopark Guides, the first geopark docent system introduced in global geoparks, provide on-site interpretation.
