Notice of the Launch of "Chip-based BOC Card"

"Chip-based BOC Card" Replacement by 31 March 2014

To comply with the requirements of Hong Kong Monetary Authority ("HKMA"), Bank of China (Hong Kong) Limited ("the Bank") has replaced the existing magnetic stripe BOC card with the brand new "Chip-based BOC Card" for customers. The new card offers enhanced security features, providing customers with additional protection. The existing magnetic stripe BOC Card becomes invalid for ATM, PPS, EPS or other related services from 1 April 2014 onwards. If you still have not yet activated your new card, please conduct a transaction with the new card at any BOC or JETCO ATM as soon as possible. If you have not received the new card, please visit any of our branches for card replacement free of charge.

Remarks:

  1. The new "chip-based BOC Card" (and other cash withdrawal cards) are not applicable to "PLUS" network.
  2. There will be a charge for cash withdrawal transaction at ATMs of the “UnionPay”network, please enquiry the handling fee at “General Banking Service Charges”.
  3. Replacement of the existing BOC Card with the new "chip-based BOC Card" may not be made automatically under certain circumstances. In such case, customers will be required to visit any of our branches in person for card replacement.
  4. If you do not agree to use the above services, please contact our staff.
  5. According to HKMA's guidelines, all local ATM transactions must be processed by chip-based cards from 1 April 2014 onwards. Customers will not be able to perform transactions with the existing BOC Card afterwards if card replacement is not made by the aforesaid deadline.
  6. Customers' existing BOC Card will be voided upon activation of the new card.

     

If there is any discrepancy between the English and the Chinese versions, the English version shall prevail.
