S&P BOCHK China Hong Kong Greater Bay Area Net Zero 2050 Climate Transition Index

BOCHK has partnered with S&P Dow Jones Indices to launch the first innovative climate transition index with an aim to facilitate the low-carbon transition of the listed companies in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) in China. The index also provides the investment community with a cost-efficient and diversified investment tool to reorient more capital flows towards companies with low-carbon footprint.

Issuance of offshore RMB local government bonds in Hong Kong

BOCHK assisted the Shenzhen Municipal People's Government to issue offshore RMB local government bonds in Hong Kong in 2023. The funds raised from the green bond and socially responsible bond are mainly used for projects in healthcare, education, and the renovation of old districts. In addition to acting as a green and socially responsible financial advisor, we are also responsible for updating the ESG financial framework, and the provision of a full range of services including cross-border clearing, asset management, market making, bond issuance and market research.

Facilitating the First RMB Biodiversity-themed Green Bonds for Local Governments

In 2023, we assisted the People's Government of Hainan Province in another successful RMB bond issuance in Hong Kong, including the first RMB biodiversity-themed green bond issued by a local government, as well as the issuance of a blue bond and a sustainable development bond for the second consecutive year. BOCHK was involved in all aspects of the project, including research, execution, pricing, settlement and delivery. We also took the lead in organising the roadshow and sales activities, and assisted in obtaining relevant certifications from the Hong Kong Quality Assurance Agency.

Facilitate the development of renewable energy

We led the AUD 277 million green syndicated loan in 2023 for the renewable energy firm of ACEN Corporation under the Ayala Group, and acted as the exclusive green advisor. The loan was the largest green syndicated term loan for ACEN Corporation's Australian platform at the time, and will help increase its installed renewable energy capacity and support the strategic objectives of Ayala Group.

Green finance advisor to drive low-carbon transition

BOCHK arranged a green loan for Esquel Group to refinance its Sustainable Development Garden in Guilin and finance projects to improve energy efficiency, wastewater treatment and pollution prevention at its manufacturing sites. BOCHK was also appointed as Esquel’s green finance advisor and worked with HKQAA to develop and certify its green loan framework.

Providing a sustainability-linked loan to a leading Chinese shipbuilding group

BOCHK successfully facilitated a sustainability-linked ship financing club loan for Vista Shipholding, a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation to support its pursuit of more aggressive sustainability goals. Under the loan agreement, the interest rate on the loan will be reduced if the Group reaches a predefined sustainability goal, reducing its financing costs. The loan provides funding for the Group to purchase new environmentally friendly ships that are more efficient and emit lower emissions. In this way, the Group will be able to play its part in accelerating the shipping industry’s low-carbon transition and sustainable development journey.

The first green mortgage plan in Hong Kong

BOCHK collaborated with Sino Group to provide digitalised and paperless mortgage services to potential buyers of designated residential projects that have received the BEAM Plus “Platinum” or “Gold” Rating. Launched in 2021, this is the first green mortgage plan in Hong Kong, encouraging citizens to support green building and transition to a low-carbon lifestyle.

The first green personal loan in Hong Kong for electric vehicles

BOCHK launched Hong Kong’s first green personal loan to customers who purchase electric vehicles in 2022. The adoption of green, emission-free transport in the city will play a crucial role in helping Hong Kong achieve its goal of carbon neutrality by 2050.

The first personal green time deposit in Hong Kong

In July 2021, we become the first retail bank in Hong Kong to launch a personal green time deposit product that is certified by an independent third party. Deposit funds will be used to support projects in green building, renewable energy and pollution prevention, accelerating a green and low-carbon transition.

The first ESG multi-asset retail fund with RMB share class in Hong Kong

In June 2021, we launched “BOCHK All Weather ESG Multi-Asset Fund”, the first ESG multi-asset fund with an RMB share class in Hong Kong. The fund enables retail customers to participate in ESG investment through asset allocation within a portfolio of fixed-income and equity securities that are consistent with ESG investment principles.

The first Distribution of Third Party Structured Note, Mutual Fund Linked Note by BOCHK Private Banking

BOCHK Private Banking endeavours to fulfil high-end customers’ needs by offering green investment solutions. In 2023, the first batch of Mutual Fund Linked Note in green note format was distributed to our customers. By expanding the investment offerings for ESG-related products, BOCHK is offering customers a wide spectrum of green investment opportunities for them to participate in sustainable finance and social responsibilities.
