Paper gold is an investment account made available by the Bank for investors who are interested in buying and /or selling gold or other precious metals without involving in any physical delivery of the relevant precious metal, therefore saving storage and security costs. Investors can earn profits or may incur losses from trading the bid / ask spread of gold or other precious metals. Paper gold schemes are regulated as collective investment schemes under the SFO.
There are various names for Paper Gold Schemes in the market. The Notional Precious Metals Passbook Account of BOCHK is an investment instrument made available by the Bank for investors who are interested in buying and/or selling paper gold or other paper precious metals. The product is regulated as a collective investment scheme under the SFO.
Customer will need to own a BOCHK settlement account in HKD before visiting any branch or our Mobile Banking to open a Notional Precious Metals Passbook Account. When the account is open, customer can buy or sell paper gold or other paper precious metals via online banking, mobile banking, phone banking or our manned Investment Hotlines.
Our trading hours are Mondays to Fridays 08:00 - 03:30 of the next day (Hong Kong time), except public holidays. The Bank may change the trading means and trading hours from time to time.
Customers can log in to account, select "Investments" > "Precious Metals" > "Transaction Records". All buy and sell transactions will also be recorded and shown in the consolidated accounts statements and/or the passbook.
There are no handling fees or charges of the Bank for any transaction placed under the Product. The Bank's profit margins are embedded in the Bank's Selling Price and the Bank's Purchase Price per Trading Unit.
Any investment involves risks. There are no exceptions when investing in the Paper Gold Scheme. In general, the Paper Gold scheme is considered ‘simple’ when compared to other structured investments as there are no leveraging, derivatives and margin calls involved. Investing in the Paper Gold Scheme is considered relatively low-risk. You should read the Product Key Facts Statement and Principal Brochure to understand the nature and risks of the Product.
